We've almost go this working - here's what we found: You can get Windows 10 Professional to connect to Server Essentials non R2 if you point the clients DNS address to the IP address of the server. You also have to add a line to the registry to make this happen. Once you connect to the Server you are shown the screenshot I posted above - asking you to "download the software for windows 7 and 8" - which is confusing since you're connecting a Windows 10 machine.

Microsoft admitted this was confusing and said this would be addressed in a future update We still don't have everything working correctly - which may be related to the fact that I installed the Connector R2 software on my computer.
