JEEP LEMON LAW.

Jeep recalled 320,068 plug-in hybrids for battery fires — and that campaign replaced two earlier ones for the same defect. Vehicles already "repaired" twice needed a third remedy.

What Decides It

Four facts, in this order.

Jeep built it, but Jeep does not decide it. These four questions decide it, and the repair orders in your glovebox answer all four.

01

Substantial Defect

One that impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle. Stalling, brake failure, steering and persistent electrical faults qualify. A rattle generally does not.

02

Repair Attempts

Florida looks for three attempts at the same defect. New York looks for four. Recall work and visits that found nothing both count.

03

Days Out of Service

Thirty cumulative days in Florida and in New York. Cumulative, not consecutive, and the days count whether or not anything was fixed.

04

Coverage Window

The defect has to be reported while the vehicle is inside the warranty or rights period. When it was reported matters more than today's date.

The 4xe battery recall is the clearest repeat-repair record in the American market. Campaign 25V741 covers 320,068 Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles whose high-voltage battery may fail internally and cause a fire — and it expressly supersedes two earlier recalls, 23V787 and 24V720, on the same vehicles. Owners who complied with both earlier remedies needed a third.

That is the classic Lemon Law fact pattern, documented by the manufacturer itself. Three remedies for one defect is not an allegation you have to prove; it is on the NHTSA record.

Owners were also told to park outdoors away from structures and to stop charging pending repair. A plug-in hybrid you cannot charge has lost its core function, which speaks directly to the substantial impairment of use and value that the statute requires.

Recall or Claim

A recall says Jeep knows. A third recall says the first two did not work.

A recall is the manufacturer acknowledging that a defect exists across a population of vehicles and offering a remedy. It is a public admission of the fault pattern, which makes it useful evidence. What it is not is a Lemon Law claim.

The claim arises from what happened to your vehicle: the defect was reported, the manufacturer was given a reasonable number of attempts to repair it, and it is still there. With the 4xe, the manufacturer has already documented two failed attempts before you count your own.

The exposure is not limited to hybrids. Campaign 26V363 covers 1,076,999 Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles from 2021 to 2025 whose electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring can overheat and start a fire — including while the vehicle is parked with the ignition off.

WHAT KEEPS COMING BACK.

These are the defect categories that generate the most Lemon Law and warranty claims against Jeep. A vehicle showing one of these is not automatically a claim. A vehicle showing one of these repeatedly and unrepaired usually is.

4xe Battery Fire Risk

Jeep's plug-in hybrid battery packs can short internally and ignite while parked or charging. Campaign 25V741 covers 320,068 Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs and supersedes two earlier recalls.

Power Steering Pump Fire

Out-of-tolerance electric hydraulic power steering pump connectors create high resistance and can start a fire with the ignition off, affecting 1,076,999 Wranglers and Gladiators.

Engine Debris and Failure

Casting sand left in 4xe engine blocks causes bearing wear, engine failure, power loss and compartment fires. Campaign 25V766 covers 117,904 Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe vehicles.

Hybrid Control Power Loss

A hybrid control processor software fault drops drive power without warning in 91,787 Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids, a defect repeatedly returned for reflashes rather than a permanent fix.

Electrical System Complaints

Electrical system is the single most-reported NHTSA complaint category for the Grand Cherokee in every model year from 2021 to 2025, and for the Wrangler across thousands of complaints in the same period.

Rearview Camera Blackout

Radio software can leave the backup camera screen blank in reverse, a federal rear-visibility violation. Campaign 26V531 covers 844,027 vehicles including eight 2026 Jeep nameplates.

Where It Ends Up

Four ways a Jeep claim resolves.

Which one applies depends on the state, the facts and what gets negotiated with FCA US. All four start with the same free case review.

It is about as strong a fact as a Lemon Law claim can have. Campaign 25V741 covers 320,068 Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles and expressly supersedes recalls 23V787 and 24V720 on the same vehicles. The manufacturer has documented on the federal record that two previous remedies did not resolve the defect, before you count anything you arranged yourself.
