PORSCHE LEMON LAW.

Porsche recalled 172,107 cars for a rearview camera that will not display, and 27,527 Taycans for battery modules that can short and burn. The Taycan matter is still open, under continuing reporting to NHTSA.

What Decides It

Four facts, in this order.

Porsche built it, but Porsche does not decide it. These four questions decide it, and the repair orders in your glovebox answer all four.

01

Substantial Defect

One that impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle. Stalling, brake failure, steering and persistent electrical faults qualify. A rattle generally does not.

02

Repair Attempts

Florida looks for three attempts at the same defect. New York looks for four. Recall work and visits that found nothing both count.

03

Days Out of Service

Thirty cumulative days in Florida and in New York. Cumulative, not consecutive, and the days count whether or not anything was fixed.

04

Coverage Window

The defect has to be reported while the vehicle is inside the warranty or rights period. When it was reported matters more than today's date.

Porsche files at NHTSA under Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., the same entity as Audi and Volkswagen. Its campaign sizes are unusual: two very large actions alongside several covering only a few hundred cars. The rearview camera campaign covers 172,107 vehicles; a fuel pump fastener campaign covers 177.

The Taycan battery matter is the one to understand. Campaign 24V732 covers 27,527 model-year 2020-2024 Taycans whose battery modules can short-circuit internally, leading to thermal events and in some cases fires. It remains under continuing quarterly reporting to NHTSA, with a public filing as recent as July 2026 — an open, ongoing matter rather than a closed campaign.

Battery work means long periods without the car. That matters directly, because 15 or more cumulative days out of service in Florida, or 30 in New York, is a threshold in its own right, independent of how many repair attempts were made.

Recall or Claim

A recall says the manufacturer knows. A claim says they were given the chance to fix it.

A recall is the manufacturer acknowledging that a defect exists across a population of vehicles and offering a remedy. It is a public admission of the fault pattern, which makes it useful evidence. What it is not is a Lemon Law claim.

The claim arises from what happened to your vehicle: the defect was reported, the dealership was given a reasonable number of attempts to repair it, and it is still there.

The Macan Electric has been recalled twice already — once for a camera whose housing bonding lets moisture in and produces a blurry or absent image, and once for an airbag matter. A model that draws two campaigns early in its life is worth watching closely.

WHAT KEEPS COMING BACK.

These are the defect categories that generate the most Lemon Law and warranty claims against Porsche. A vehicle showing one of these is not automatically a claim. A vehicle showing one of these repeatedly and unrepaired usually is.

Taycan High-Voltage Battery Fire

Campaign 24V732 covers 27,527 model-year 2020-2024 Taycans whose battery modules can short-circuit internally, leading to thermal events and in some cases fires. The matter remains open at NHTSA.

Rearview Camera Failure

Porsche's largest recent action, campaign 25V896, covers 172,107 Cayenne, 911, Taycan and Panamera vehicles whose reversing image fails to display, breaching federal rear-visibility rules.

Passenger Airbag Deactivation

Campaign 25V221 recalled 9,735 model-year 2022-2023 Taycans where an occupant classification error deactivates the front passenger airbag so it will not deploy in a crash.

Macan Electric Moisture Ingress

Campaign 25V220 covers 8,571 model-year 2024-2025 Macan Electric models where poor camera-housing bonding lets moisture in, producing blurry images or total display failure.

Air Suspension Strut Failure

A 2025 campaign covering Taycan and Panamera vehicles addressed a strut retaining ring that can loosen, dislodging the strut and causing air loss and loss of vehicle control.

Fuel Delivery Leaks

Campaign 25V634 covers Cayenne and Panamera models with under-tightened high-pressure fuel pump fasteners that can leak fuel and start a fire near an ignition source.

Where It Ends Up

Four ways a Porsche claim resolves.

Which one applies depends on the state, the facts and what gets negotiated with Volkswagen Group of America. All four start with the same free case review.
